Climate Citizen” Builds Momentum for Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026

Bangkok, August 27, 2026 - Bangkok’s climate community came together recently at Jim Thompson Art Center for "Climate Citizen – Economy We Shape, Climate We Share", an event designed to drive connection, exchange and action ahead of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026 (BKKCAW 2026), scheduled from October 3-11, 2026.

Organized by Bangkok Climate Action Week, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), AFS Thailand Foundation, and Jim Thompson Art Center, “Climate Citizen” explored at how a new economy can deliver better outcomes for both people and the planet. It reflected BKKCAW’s whole-of-society ethos to create space for diverse voices to meet, share practical ideas and form collaborations to accelerate climate action.

Thai government officials and leading climate representatives in attendance included Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman, AFS Thailand Foundation, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Leo Horn-Pathnothai, Founder and Co-Chair, BKKCAW Organizing Committee. 

The discussion explored how collaboration across sectors can help shape a new economy which creates opportunities for people while building a better future for the planet.

Leo Horn-Phathanothai, Founder of Just Transitions Incubator and Co-Chair of the BKKCAW Steering Committee said “We tend to think of the climate, like the economy, as a given or too big to change. But the economy is a reflection of political choices and public policy, which itself requires the consent of the people. The new economy is already here, surrounding us and we have the opportunity and responsibility to shape it and grow it, but no one can do this on their own. Alone we are powerless; collectively we are unstoppable.  This is what we are starting with Bangkok Climate Action Week. We are inviting all to join in growing a better economy, where Mother Earth and her children (including us all) can thrive.” 

Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok said “It is very important that we think about sustainability as it becomes a talking point for more and more Thai people. Sustainability is not just about the environment; it means using everything efficiently across every sector. We cannot consume all the resources of future generations now, be it clean air, water or public sector budgets. This is connected to the economic viability of a city; if it squanders its resources and wastes its budget then it cannot move forward. We are doing everything we can to make Bangkok a better city for the future as we want to create opportunities and provide hope for all.”

“Climate Citizen” helps build momentum toward BKKCAW 2026, which aims to be Asia-Pacific’s largest climate gathering to date. In the first year, BKKCAW 2025 hosted over 77,000 participants from over 34 countries through more than 270 stakeholder-led events, supported by over 100 partner organizations.

This year more than 320 programs are under consideration for BKKCAW 2026 across the nine-day program. Participants are invited to discover solutions, join conversations and turn shared ambition into meaningful climate action for Bangkok, Thailand and the greater Asia Pacific region.
