Governments have a crucial and irreplaceable role in enabling other actors and marshaling resources towards growing a better economy. To fulfill that role requires visionary leadership; a capable public sector; well-designed policies, regulations and procurement; and ecological fiscal reform. A spotlight talk restates the rationale for public action, underscoring the need for political responsibility, public sector leadership and smart governmental intervention to address climate change and related crises.
