About this event
While the steel sector is a foundational industry for any nation, it is also one of the most emissions-intensive sectors. As countries strengthen climate commitments and industrial decarbonization efforts, the steel sector is becoming a key focus for low-carbon transition, especially in Asia. At the same time, this transition is not only about technology and investment. It may also have significant impacts on jobs, skills, local economies, and industrial regions. A holistic transition approach is therefore essential. For the steel sector, this means as we address climate change and advance the sectorβs decarbonization, we also identify policy and institutional responses that support affected workers, enterprises, and communities, thereby reducing social risks and better accelerating the transition in return. Given the different development contexts across China and Southeast Asia, with a specific focus on Indonesia, there is strong value in regional exchange on research findings, policy experience, and practical approaches. We welcome partners interested in the low-carbon and just transition of the steel industry, regional green cooperation, and related topics to join events hosted by the WRI China Office and actively participate in the discussions. Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
