Understanding Public Momentum for the Climate Transition in Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia’s climate and energy transition is entering a critical phase. Across the region, the imperative is increasingly clear: climate ambition must be translated into progressive implementation. The success will depend not only on technology and finance, but also on public understanding, trust and support. How do Southeast Asian people perceive the climate and energy transition? What trade-offs are they willing to accept, and what do they expect from governments, businesses and other stakeholders? Organised by the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, this roundtable will present key findings from the Southeast Asia Climate Outlook 2026 Survey. The findings will provide a starting point for assessing public momentum for the transition and exploring how policymakers and other stakeholders can harness public support to drive meaningful change across key sectors. Experts from different fields will reflect on the findings and consider their implications for the region’s climate and energy transition. Presenter: Elbinsar Purba, Fellow, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute Moderator: Sharon Seah, Principal Fellow and Coordinator, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute Discussants: - Dr Prapimphan Chiengkul, Associate Professor, Thammasat University - Mr Jack Board, Senior Correspondent, CNA - Mr Agus Praditya Tampubolon, Program Director, Climate and Just Energy Transition Program, Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) - Ms Kiara Mulia, Climate Program Manager, Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) - Ms Kalayaan Constantino, Programme Director, Southeast Asia, Tara Climate Foundation

Urban Living Labs: Co-creating heat resilience and equitable cooling in cities
Join us for an interactive, hands-on workshop that moves beyond big climate commitments to explore what it takes to create change in the places where people actually live, work and move. Working in small groups, participants will explore how extreme heat is experienced across different aspects of everyday urban life, from buildings and mobility to energy, water and public spaces. Together, you will identify local heat-related challenges, co-create practical solutions, test what it would take to make them work, and explore the roles of governments, communities, businesses and other stakeholders in creating cooler, more resilient cities. Through collaborative exercises and knowledge exchange, the workshop will explore how grassroots ideas and local experiments can move beyond the pilot stage and become part of city systems, climate action plans and urban policy. Come ready to imagine, debate, create and rethink how cities can turn climate ambition into action that works for people.

Water is Love
Water doesn't separate us, it connects us - to land, to community, to climate itself. Water is Love is an award-winning documentary, filmed at Tamera Ecovillage in Portugal as part of the There's No Planet B series. It follows water retention projects in India, Kenya and Portugal, where communities have brought degraded landscapes back to life, not by fighting nature, but by working with it. This isn't just an ecology film. It's a reminder that we're not separate from the water cycle, we're part of it. The film asks how far we've drifted from living in balance with natural rhythms, and shows that the solutions we need already exist, tested, working, and ready to be scaled. See the trailer at waterislove.org. Join us after the film to hear from Thai Agri-Nature work on a watershed restoration project in Nan. Come for the film. Stay for the conversation about what it means to live like we belong to the water, not the other way around.

Heat, Work and the New Economy: Protecting Informal Workers in a Warming Asia
Extreme heat is rapidly becoming a labour, livelihood and economic resilience challenge across Southeast Asia. Informal and outdoor workers - including street vendors, construction workers, transport workers, waste workers, small farmers and migrant workers who are often among the most exposed, yet remain least protected by workplace safeguards, social protection, insurance and adaptation finance. This interactive policy and practice lab asks: what would a worker-centred heat protection system for Southeast Asia look like? Bringing together workers and community-facing organisations, cities, researchers, public-health practitioners, funders, insurers and development partners, the session will explore how heat early warning can be connected to decisions, practical protection and financial mechanisms before harm occurs. Participants will use a Sense–Decide–Act–Sustain framework to examine early warning and risk intelligence; institutional protocols and responsibilities; measures such as shade, hydration, cooling spaces, work-rest cycles and community preparedness; and the role of anticipatory finance, social protection, micro-insurance and parametric insurance. The session aims to generate practical principles and partnerships for protecting workers while strengthening the resilience of cities and local economies across Southeast Asia.

October 10, 2026 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Explore a natural forest garden in Bangkok, visit the local home, and engage in a hands-on woodworking activity. What is your perspective on Bangkok? Come experience Bangkok from our point of view. We are locals, born and raised in Bangkok, dedicated to restoring a green space that resembles a natural forest—rich in biodiversity. Our journey stems from a process of awareness: pausing, reflecting, understanding, and accepting reality, then gradually transforming ourselves and those around us—as much as possible—amidst various challenges. We invite guests to our home to experience and understand the "Art of Living"—a five-dimensional approach rooted in authenticity and simplicity. Afternoon Workshop Thai Creo Studio and our friends—including pongpop narapanich (interior architect & woodworker), Tossapol Trisit, Soithip Padungdech (Furniture Designer & Woodworker) from Roencrafts invite you to join us in a collaborative woodworking session. Pick up and handle logs and branches; examine them to discover their value and potential; then shape and assemble them into simple furniture. We will apply design principles to natural materials found in our surroundings, creating functional items—specifically a three-legged stool—inspired by "Nature-based Solutions." 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Site tour, including the natural forest garden, the studio, creative workspaces, and the residential area. 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Discussion and exchange of perspectives on environmental issues. Experience Bangkok's green spaces and the "Green Economy" through the use of available timber materials. 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Enjoy a meal featuring carefully selected seasonal ingredients—prepared by us and sourced from the local community. 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Hands-on workshop—select available wood to craft your own small three-legged stool. Special Price: 3,000 THB per person (Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026 special offer). Includes the workshop, one lunch, and snacks. What you will receive: Your handcrafted three-legged wooden stool A seed kit A kitchen garden plant/vegetable seedling ***To make a reservation and pay the 1,000 Baht deposit, Pls contact 0899356385 or send an e-mail to thaicreo@gmail.com ***We reserve the right not to refund the deposit in the event of non-attendance, as expenses for equipment and advance operational costs have already been incurred.*** Nature, Native, National (+/- International) Intellectual + Property By Thai Creo Studio Co.,Ltd. – All Rights Reserved with the alliance Supported by Wichai Limtongsitikun Wiroj Tanatchasai Sutthikorn “Boyd” Jearpaitoon Thai Creo Studio Co.,Ltd.

Seminar and Strategy Meeting on China for Renewable Energy Acceleration
The swift phase-out of fossil fuels must be accompanied by a swift phase-in of renewable energy systems, not only to replace fossil fuels but also to address energy poverty and achieve real energy security and sovereignty, a core component of sustainable and equitable economic development and prosperity. These twin tasks - phase out of fossils and phase in of renewables - come with many-sided challenges, including the need for finance and investments, standards and safeguards, democratic processes with the active participation of right-holders, and related fiscal and economic policy changes. China has a critical role to play in this transition. As the world’s largest manufacturer and installer of renewable energy technologies and a leading investor and developer of renewable energy projects, China has become a central partner for countries seeking to rapidly scale up solar, wind, storage and other clean-energy solutions. The 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) reinforces this role by prioritizing the development of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient new energy system, consolidating China’s technological and industrial advantages in renewable energy, and deepening international cooperation in renewable-energy projects, technology, industry, standards and certification. As Chinese companies expand overseas, this creates significant opportunities while also raising important questions around investment and financing models, technology transfer, local value creation, skills and supply-chain development, environmental and social safeguards, and regulatory and technical standards—making greater clarity and deeper understanding increasingly important among host-country stakeholders, policy-makers, and civil society. The two-day convening combines an interactive onsite learning session (1st day, Oct. 10 - by Registration) with a focused strategy workshop (2nd day, Oct 11 - by Invitation) to move from shared understanding to developing a collective position on China-Global South energy partnerships, and identifying concrete pathways for CSO engagement and action that can shape the next phase of the energy transition in the Global South, particularly in Asia.

Surviving the City: How Residents Adapt to Heat, Floods, and a Sinking Ground
Bangkok faces an accelerating convergence of climate risks that are already reshaping daily life for its residents. Urban heat effects intensify temperatures beyond regional averages, recurrent flooding disrupts livelihoods across low-lying districts, and land subsidence compounds the city’s long-term vulnerability. These risks fall most heavily on those least equipped to respond — elderly residents, outdoor workers, children, and communities in under-served or flood-prone neighbourhoods. The World Bank projects Thailand’s GDP could fall by 7–14% by 2050 without timely, sufficient adaptation investment. Public understanding of the risks, choices, and trade-offs involved remains limited, and there are few structured channels through which residents, researchers, funders, and policymakers can exchange lessons with peer cities facing the same pressures. The inter-city panel is convened to help close that gap. In addition, during 5-11 October, there will also be an exhibition about climate risks and ways the residents can adapt to these risks, shown at the MRT Entrance to One Bangkok, B1 floor, Parade Zone.

Bangmot Bio-Cruise
The SAFETist Bio-Cruise is a low-carbon eco-tourism initiative hosted at SAFETist Farm in collaboration with the Araya Bangmot Creative Community Enterprise. Driven by the vision of Inclusive Climate Action, the program utilizes clean zero-emission electric boats—supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Thailand—to eliminate noise and air pollution along the Bangmot Canal. Partnering with Scripps College and the 30x30 Thailand Coalition for academic expertise, the cruise invites participants to explore, observe, and document local biodiversity, including native bird and plant species, establishing a crucial ecological database for future conservation. Beyond environmental protection, the project leverages a Citizen Science approach to empower youth and attendees as Active Environmental Citizens who can act as local explorers, eco-communicators, and community change-makers. Managed directly by the local community enterprise, the initiative boosts the grassroots economy by generating sustainable income for neighborhood vendors. Ultimately, it serves as a practical sandbox model to demonstrate environmental impact, paving the way for public policy push toward nationwide electric boat adoption and formal protection of urban canal green spaces.

Balancing Nature and Communities: Social Safeguards in Biodiversity Conservation
This panel will explore how conservation and restoration practitioners work with forest and coastal communities. Discussions will cover implementing free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) processes, developing inclusive livelihoods, addressing human-wildlife conflict, and ensuring that communities’ role in managing and protecting the environment is reflected in policy and public finance. Drawing on field evidence and experience, it will show how social safeguards and inclusive economic models can be implemented with communities. It positions women, people with disabilities, and customary rights holders as partners in design and decision-making from the outset. CCCL Film Festival at BKKCAW 2026
Changing Climate, Changing Lives (CCCL) Film Festival, under Tonkla Rak Lok Foundation, together with HERA, Hai-Jai, mlkywy.hub, Snappy Duck, and noble PLAY, presents “CCCL Film Festival at BKKCAW 2026,” a two-day program exploring the relationships between living beings, biodiversity, and the environments we share. taking place on 3–4 October 2026 at noble PLAY (Ploenchit BTS Station), the program consists of a curated selection of short films, photography and art exhibitions, and a conversation for filmmakers and environmental and social storytellers as part of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. The film program brings together a selection of outstanding Thai and international short films previously screened at CCCL Film Festival. From threatened wetlands to communities working together to protect their local ecosystems, the films invite audiences to consider the connections between living beings, biodiversity, and the changing climate, and how changes within one part of an ecosystem can affect everything around it. The program will also feature a screening of YANUNI on 4 October at 3:00 PM, directed by Richard Ladkani and co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. The documentary follows an Indigenous woman leader as she fights to protect her ancestral lands in the Amazon rainforest. Variety described the film as an environmental documentary that is “thrilling and romantic.” Alongside the film program, HERA will present a collection of 12 photographs documenting the impacts of rising urban temperatures on women, including how extreme heat affects their work and health. Hai-Jai and mlkywy.hub will also bring back some of the works from their BREATHE exhibition presented in late 2025, to this pop-up exhibition titled “BREATHE Again.” Bringing the works into a new context, the exhibition continues to explore stories, memories, and our relationship with the environment. On 4 October at 2:00 PM, Snappy Duck will host a conversation exploring the role and importance of environmental storytelling. The session will discuss the topic and exchange perspectives on how environmental stories can connect with audiences and explore ways to move these stories beyond awareness towards meaningful and sustainable change. Through film, exhibition, and conversation, CCCL Film Festival at BKKCAW 2026 creates a space to look at climate and environmental issues not only through data and information, but through the stories, experiences, and relationships that connect all living things. Through experiential activities and a conceptual design showcase, visitors are invited to consider how extreme heat can deepen existing inequalities and how public spaces can better respond to diverse users. Zone 1 – Experience Unequal Impacts Visitors take part in guided and hands-on activities exploring mobility, sensory and communication barriers experienced by people with disabilities, and how extreme heat can intensify these everyday challenges. Zone 2 – Cooling Shelter Model Visitors explore a conceptual Cooling Shelter through a physical scale model and supporting visuals, demonstrating how accessible design and passive cooling strategies can be integrated into public spaces to provide relief from urban heat.
