Living with the Changing Sea: A Participatory Video and Storybook from Baan Yaimom community
Small-scale fishery communities in Thailand play a vital ecological and social role, but face mounting threats including due to unclear tenure arrangements, economic pressures, and climate change. At this event organized for Bangkok Climate Action Week (BCAW), a community participatory video created in Baan Yaimom village, Trat Province will be screened and discussed. The film was created with residents from Baan Yaimom village, who helped document their histories, spatial practices, and legal struggles. The video, together with a community storybook, shows how communities can make their “invisible rights” visible asserting customary claims and collective knowledge. The research that created the community participatory video and storybook has been prepared through the Just Futures Mekong Fellowship Program. This interdisciplinary fellowship and research programme emphasizes co-produced knowledge grounded in the lived experience of community members to inform policy that supports grassroots-led climate adaptation. The panel discussion at this event will connect community and civil society experience with participatory research approaches, and broader issues of policy, climate change, and socio-economic transformation to collectively identify ways forward that are sustainable and socially just in Thailand and beyond.

Indonesia is accelerating its low-carbon mobility transition, with a target of 90% electrification of mass urban public transport by 2030. However, electric bus deployment and charging infrastructure remain at an early stage, highlighting the need for scalable financing and delivery models. Convened by ITDP Indonesia and MSC (MicroSave Consulting), supported by ViriyaENB and ICSC (Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities), during Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026, this interactive panel will explore how climate finance, private investment, and innovative business models can accelerate sustainable mobility in Indonesia. Predict, Protect, Pay: AI and Digital Health for Climate-Resilient Health Systems
Climate change is a health emergency, and Thailand is on the front line. Dengue, extreme heat, and PM2.5 haze fall hardest on the elderly, migrants, informal workers, and last-mile communities. At the same time, Thailand holds unusual strengths: universal health coverage, more than a million village health volunteers, and dense surveillance and sensor infrastructure. This session asks a simple question with large consequences. If AI can forecast a dengue outbreak or a heatwave two weeks out, why does money still move only after people are sick? Over the afternoon we will explore how digital tools and AI can strengthen both sides of the climate and health response: early warning and anticipatory action on the adaptation side, and emissions tracking for health systems on the mitigation side. Discussion will look at what it takes in policy, data governance, and capital to move promising designs from pilot to scale, drawing on Thai experience alongside examples from other countries. The programme will bring together voices from government, WHO, climate and health financiers, and digital health innovators. Expect a framing conversation, a panel, a short showcase of work underway in the region, and time for open exchange and networking. Equity runs through it: we will ask directly whether AI narrows or widens the gap for the communities most exposed. Rice Day: Transforming the Rice Sector in Asia
Rice is the staple food of Asia and provides the basis of rural livelihoods for more than 140 million smallholder farming households. Rice cultivation is also one of the region's largest sources of agricultural methane, and the crop is highly exposed to drought, flooding and extreme weather events. In Thailand and across Asia, rice is more than an agricultural commodity: it is at the centre of rural identity and deeply rooted in religious traditions, festivals and everyday food culture. While rice is critical for Asia’s food security, climate change is threatening yields through rising temperatures and increased weather volatility. A super El Nino phenomenon is currently occurring and expected to affect rice growing areas in Southeast Asia in the coming months. Smallholders in Viet Nam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia and India are particularly vulnerable. Singapore depends on rice imports, in particular from Thailand, Viet Nam and India, and Africa imports roughly a third of its rice consumption from South and Southeast Asia. Climate-smart practices such as alternate wetting and drying, improved nutrient management, straw and stubble management and direct seeding can reduce emissions and increase the resilience and adaptive capacity of smallholders while strengthening their livelihoods. Rice Day brings this multi-faceted topic to Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. The event brings together philanthropy, government, research institutions, farmer representatives, development agencies and the private sector to discuss how the rice sector can move from individual projects to a coordinated and well-financed transformation. The Politics of Rice: Redirecting Agricultural Support for Southeast Asia's New Climate and Economy
Every day, governments around the world spend more than $2 billion on agricultural subsidies, roughly 1% of global GDP. In Southeast Asia, rice sits at the heart of these expenditures: a crop with profound political significance, embedded in national food sovereignty narratives, and backed by some of the most entrenched subsidy systems in the world. The region produces around a quarter of the world's rice supply, and the climate cost of that production is substantial (Project Drawdown, 2025). Rice cultivation generates nearly 300 million tons of CO2-equivalent emissions in Southeast Asia annually, contributing to a global picture in which rice accounts for approximately 9% of all anthropogenic methane and 10% of cropland nitrous oxide emissions (Wang et al., 2020). Its work examines how actors, institutions, and narratives interact to block or enable reform, and what coalitions and strategies can shift that balance. The Politics of Rice: Redirecting Agricultural Support for Southeast Asia's New Climate and Economy
Every day, governments around the world spend more than $2 billion on agricultural subsidies, roughly 1% of global GDP. In Southeast Asia, rice sits at the heart of these expenditures: a crop with profound political significance, embedded in national food sovereignty narratives, and backed by some of the most entrenched subsidy systems in the world. The region produces around a quarter of the world's rice supply, and the climate cost of that production is substantial (Project Drawdown, 2025). Rice cultivation generates nearly 300 million tons of CO2-equivalent emissions in Southeast Asia annually, contributing to a global picture in which rice accounts for approximately 9% of all anthropogenic methane and 10% of cropland nitrous oxide emissions (Wang et al., 2020). At the same time, falling solar costs are making distributed renewable energy increasingly viable, but regulatory, financing, grid integration, and commercial barriers continue to limit deployment. This session brings together policymakers, industry players, investors, technology providers, and regional experts to discuss how distributed solar and battery energy storage can be scaled across Southeast Asia. The discussion will focus on practical lessons from the region, including what regulatory reforms can accelerate deployment, how smaller projects can become bankable, and what business models can make battery storage commercially viable. Session 1: Distributed Power Generation — Unlocking the Fastest Route to Clean Electricity in Southeast Asia. Changing Climate, Changing Lives (CCCL) Film Festival, under Tonkla Rak Lok Foundation, together with HERA, Hai-Jai, mlkywy.hub, Snappy Duck, and noble PLAY, presents “CCCL Film Festival at BKKCAW 2026,” a two-day program exploring the relationships between living beings, biodiversity, and the environments we share. taking place on 3–4 October 2026 at noble PLAY (Ploenchit BTS Station), the program consists of a curated selection of short films, photography and art exhibitions, and a conversation for filmmakers and environmental and social storytellers as part of Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. The film program brings together a selection of outstanding Thai and international short films previously screened at CCCL Film Festival. From threatened wetlands to communities working together to protect their local ecosystems, the films invite audiences to consider the connections between living beings, biodiversity, and the changing climate, and how changes within one part of an ecosystem can affect everything around it. The program will also feature a screening of YANUNI on 4 October at 3:00 PM, directed by Richard Ladkani and co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. The documentary follows an Indigenous woman leader as she fights to protect her ancestral lands in the Amazon rainforest. Don’t let good-quality pieces sit lonely in the closet — come exchange and rotate your wardrobe, swap the old for something new, save money, and be kinder to the planet. The piece you let go of might become someone else’s new favorite. 15:00-17:00 | Workshop: A Frame Full of Joy: What does your Everyday Joy look like, framed in one shot? Explore the world you’d like to see through a collage of fabric scraps, flowers, and photos capturing your own version of Everyday Joy, then join a conversation with the green community about how to hold onto these everyday joys while keeping the planet livable.

We are flowers of the Earth We are gifts from the stars We are earthly beings We live in Paradise . Hello, dear friends. We're excited to announce our long-awaited Deep Time Walk in Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026! A transformative journey to experience the deep longing in our bodies. . This time, we are joined by Di Kilsby, a fellow Deep Time Walk facilitator from Australia/Cambodia. Di will invite us to reflect on Deep Time through Indigenous Australian and feminist perspectives, brought to life through art and storytelling. As a result, this session will be conducted primarily in English. We’d love to invite you all to come walk with us! 🙂 . We warmly invite friends to come and learn, reflect, and reconnect with the Earth through the vast and deep dimension of time. . Join us on a 4.6-kilometer walk that embodies the 4.6 billion-year history of the Earth, where each meter walked represents one million years of our planetary body history. We allow ourselves to follow the invitation to see the world anew through a perspective of deep interconnection with all life. . “Designing for Heat, Designing for All” is an interactive exhibition exploring the intersection of climate resilience, accessibility and inclusive design. Through experiential activities and a conceptual design showcase, visitors are invited to consider how extreme heat can deepen existing inequalities and how public spaces can better respond to diverse users. Zone 1 – Experience Unequal Impacts Visitors take part in guided and hands-on activities exploring mobility, sensory and communication barriers experienced by people with disabilities, and how extreme heat can intensify these everyday challenges. Zone 2 – Cooling Shelter Model Visitors explore a conceptual Cooling Shelter through a physical scale model and supporting visuals, demonstrating how accessible design and passive cooling strategies can be integrated into public spaces to provide relief from urban heat.
