What Will You Inherit? Youth Art x Climate Dialogue
What kind of world do you want to inherit? A special Art × Climate session for young people **6 October 2026 | 10:00–12:00 pm | Lumphini Park- Recreation center - second floor Bangkok Climate Action Week | Limited attendance ** In collaboration with Youthtopia → Register here: https://luma.com/8hfp004f What Will She Inherit? is a participatory Art × Climate session created especially for young people (16- 25 years) to imagine, question, and share the kind of future they want to inherit. Using original artworks and a live collaborative painting as starting points, we’ll explore a simple question: If you could shape the world you inherit, what would you want it to look and feel like? There are no panels or presentations. Instead, participants will paint, reflect, and talk about what matters to them — from nature and cities to climate, community, and the choices being made today. The ideas and voices emerging from this session will feed directly into a senior leadership dialogue later that afternoon, bringing youth perspectives into a conversation with leaders from climate finance, business, philanthropy, policy, academia, and the arts. About the Artist The session is led by Riya Saxena, a New Delhi–based climate finance specialist and contemporary artist. Her work brings together nearly a decade in climate finance and energy transition with an artistic practice exploring motherhood, memory, nature, and climate inheritance. About Youthtopia This session is being held in collaboration with Youthtopia, a global youth empowerment platform that supports young changemakers to learn, connect, and turn their ideas into action. Community-based solutions from NGOs and farmers Rice exhibition Panel discussion from practitioners and researchers The frequency, intensity, and duration of extreme heat events have risen sharply over the past half-century, and the risks to agri-food systems and ecosystems are set to soar in the future, according to the latest joint report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Rice, the world’s most in-demand staple crop, is not only vulnerable to climate change but also exacerbates it, as traditional cultivation methods generate substantial quantities of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Additionally, its highly water-intensive nature poses a formidable challenge to an increasingly arid planet. Currently, climate-friendly rice farming is shifting from a single technology focused on reducing methane emissions from paddy fields to a comprehensive approach that balances emissions reduction, adaptation, food security. Although international agricultural climate policies emphasize, at the value level, the importance of farmers’ livelihoods, food security, and the role of vulnerable groups and smallholder farmers in climate adaptation, key challenges in implementation remain: whether smallholder farmers can truly participate, how to mitigate the risks associated with technology transition, and how to provide incentives for them to benefit. This also creates opportunities for NGOs, community networks, and local knowledge producers to play a meaningful role. In China, many NGOs have taken climate-friendly rice as a starting point, integrating traditional agricultural wisdom with modern scientific and technological advancements to explore technical systems and practical guidelines tailored to diverse production entities, ranging from large-scale commercial farms to family farms and smallholder households. By conducting pilot demonstrations across multiple provinces and providing training on concepts and techniques, these organizations are actively promoting the localized implementation and nationwide adoption of climate-friendly rice farming technologies. China and the rice-growing regions of SEA share similar climate challenges, such as high temperatures, droughts, floods, and water resource stress, while differing in policy, market mechanisms, and governance. Their respective localized practices can provide a case-based foundation for inter-regional exchange and knowledge sharing, while also seeking an opportunity to develop SEA-China climate-friendly rice network.

With early-stage energy transition financing needs far outstripping available public resources, scaling up private capital mobilization has become indispensable. Energy transition country platforms — including Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs), other country-led investment platforms, and blended finance facilities — have emerged as a promising mechanism for aligning public policy, concessional finance, and private capital around national transition priorities. JETPs in South Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Senegal have secured approximately USD 46.5 billion in commitments, demonstrating the potential of coordinated platforms to aggregate finance and policy support behind country-led plans. However, experience to date also highlights significant implementation challenges: slow disbursement, project preparation bottlenecks, limited private capital mobilization, and the need to ensure a just transition that creates jobs and supports affected communities. The central question is no longer whether the transition is achievable. It is how to convert initial commitments into investable projects that mobilize private finance at scale, and deliver a transition that is economically inclusive, socially just, and aligned with national development priorities. Electricity demand is rising rapidly across the subregion, driven by industrialization, urbanization and a growing middle class. Coal and gas continue to supply a substantial share of the regional energy mix all the while countries face constrained fiscal space, supply chain vulnerabilities, rising debt-servicing burdens, and intensifying climate impacts. A decade into its low-carbon commitments, Southeast Asia is encountering the limits of fossil-fuel dependency which requires a candid assessment of whether current energy transition strategies pathways are adequate to deliver the aspirations of countries in this subregion. This event will invite participants to examine the energy transition through the lens of green growth, treating it as an economic and social proposition rather than solely as a response to climate change. It will consider the conditions under which economic growth, expanded energy access, decarbonization, and employment can be pursued together, and the trade-offs, sequencing decisions and distributional questions that can deliver that vision while leaving no one behind. The discussion will give particular attention to regionally relevant trends: transport and mobility, the social and human capital dimensions of the transition, and the financing architecture that will determine which pathways are feasible. Diverse policy and financial tools are being deployed to drive a just transition. Drawing from the diverse experiences of Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, international financial institutions, and the range of stakeholders present at Bangkok Climate Action Week and the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meeting, this event aims to: • Articulate the benefits of energy transition as a driver of green growth and energy security while also identifying inclusion risks; • Share high-impact, regional examples of energy transition policies that can help overcome renewable energy deployment and sustainability; • Identify practical policy, institutional and sequencing choices for low-carbon mobility that improve access, including electrified mass transit, EVs, and two- and three-wheeler markets; • Examine how worker protection, skills development and the participation of informal workers, rural communities, women and youth can be embedded in energy transition planning; • Share policy and investment strategies for increasing industrial competitiveness through the energy transition; • Identification of financing tools, project preparation and risk-sharing needed to lower capital costs and expand investable pipelines. ETGGP is an ESCAP initiative to support Southeast Asian member States to plan, coordinate, and accelerate energy transitions. Access to affordable, reliable and clean energy is fundamental to sustainable development. How countries manage transitions in their energy systems will shape prospects for economic growth, energy security, and social development for decades to come.

From Eco-Anxiety to Action
Are climate news and environmental concerns leaving you feeling overwhelmed? “From Eco-Anxiety to Action” is an interactive, experiential workshop designed to help secondary students turn climate distress into sustainable, grounded agency. Why join us? Recent global research shows nearly 60% of young people feel "very" or "extremely worried" about environmental issues, experiencing feelings of powerlessness, fear, and grief (UNICEF / Hickman et al., 2021). While caring about our planet is essential, chronic exposure to climate stress can lead to emotional paralysis and burnout. This workshop moves beyond just discussing climate data or processing feelings. It approaches eco-anxiety through self-awareness, body regulation, and structured peer connection-equipping you with practical tools to shift from panic to purpose. What you will gain 1) Learn how climate stress manifests physically and mentally, including your nervous system's fight/flight/freeze triggers. 2) Master practical, evidence-based grounding techniques you can use anywhere to navigate acute anxiety. 3) Map your unique skills, interests, and energy levels to high-impact climate action without burning out. 4) Share experiences and collaborate with student changemakers from across Bangkok in a safe, supportive space. 5) Certificate of participation from the Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. Who should apply? We invite applications from student delegates who meet the following criteria: Secondary school students currently enrolled at a school in Bangkok. Are climate news and environmental concerns leaving you feeling overwhelmed? “From Eco-Anxiety to Action” is an interactive, experiential workshop designed to help secondary students turn climate distress into sustainable, grounded agency. Recent global research shows nearly 60% of young people feel "very" or "extremely worried" about environmental issues, experiencing feelings of powerlessness, fear, and grief (UNICEF / Hickman et al., 2021). While caring about our planet is essential, chronic exposure to climate stress can lead to emotional paralysis and burnout. This workshop moves beyond just discussing climate data or processing feelings. It approaches eco-anxiety through self-awareness, body regulation, and structured peer connection-equipping you with practical tools to shift from panic to purpose. What you will gain 1) Learn how climate stress manifests physically and mentally, including your nervous system's fight/flight/freeze triggers. 2) Master practical, evidence-based grounding techniques you can use anywhere to navigate acute anxiety. 3) Map your unique skills, interests, and energy levels to high-impact climate action without burning out. 4) Share experiences and collaborate with student changemakers from across Bangkok in a safe, supportive space. 5) Certificate of participation from the Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. Climate change is a health emergency, and Thailand is on the front line. Dengue, extreme heat, and PM2.5 haze fall hardest on the elderly, migrants, informal workers, and last-mile communities. At the same time, Thailand holds unusual strengths: universal health coverage, more than a million village health volunteers, and dense surveillance and sensor infrastructure. Changes in forests may seem distant from urban life. Yet headwater forests are closely connected to water systems, ecosystems, and people’s quality of life. What happens to our forests can therefore have a greater impact on our cities than we might realise. This learning space invites participants to explore the connection between headwater forests and urban life, drawing on the real-world experience of the Thai Conservation of Forest Foundation. It aims to bring conservation closer to everyday life and deepen understanding of how forests are connected to water security, the environment, and our daily lives. Designed as an interactive learning experience, the programme combines storytelling, board games, and creative workshops. It creates a space for young people and other participants to exchange perspectives, learn together, and turn their understanding into ideas and actions that can begin with themselves, their schools, communities, or cities. By recognising that forests and cities are not separate from one another, we can better understand our own role and begin contributing to environmental change from where we are.
